welcome to the database!

hello there, dear reader! i’m so delighted to welcome you to the celebration database. this is the culmination of a year’s research into the history of star wars celebration, but also the beginning of a journey that i think will continue forever. because lists are nice, here’s a list of things i’d like you to know going into this journey…

  1. this isn’t the finished product! the ultimate dream for this site is for it to be an explorable, organized place to collect and archive the history of celebration. from panel schedules to merch images to personal experiences, i hope for this site to be a place to dig into it all, whether to refresh your own memory or to soak up past events that you missed!
  2. i won’t be writing everything myself! just like my fanzine “into a larger world”, i hope to welcome contributors and have some guests share their celebration stories on the blog. anything not written by me will be clearly marked, so just assume that i wrote it if it isn’t specifically labeled as otherwise!
  3. the database needs your help! regularly here on the blog i’ll be posting calls for specific information. if you read a call for something and think to yourself, “i know about that” or “i was there” or “i have pics of that”, please reach out! while this site might not be a wiki that can be edited by a community, it is still a completely crowdsourced project. the only way to properly chronicle the history of this fan event is with the help of as many fans as possible. and if there’s something you think i should investigate or dig into, let me know about that too!
  4. i’ve got sources! when i’m researching and digging around in the wayback machine or otherwise, i save all of my sources. everything should be either hyperlinked or labeled with proper credit. if there is ever something incorrectly cited or if you’d like something removed, please don’t hesitate to reach out. similarly, i’m going to be wrong sometimes, most likely. if you see something that needs a correction, hit up the contact page and make sure i hear about it! i will gladly correct or retract anything to get the right info up.
  5. you can support the database! now that i’ve got this site up and running, the maintenance and domain name and any future extensions will need a little funding. the IALW patreon will give you a look into the research process, get you access to exclusive monthly writings and videos, bonus episodes of the IALW podcast, an advanced look at future blog posts, and more, all while helping keep this site up and growing!

i’m so happy to finally start sharing the information i’ve been collecting over the past year. and i’m still going! there’s so much to discover! thank you for checking out the blog and stay tuned for much more on the way very soon…
